I mean, they weren't engaging in a fight with the Red Devil, only chased by him. The only one that was attacked was Chanel. All Hester, Chanel #3 and Libby did is scream and escape within five minutes of the so called "attack".
Depends. If you consider the entire "Lights going out and doors chained shut" as part of the RD's plan, then they were definitely part of the attack. But then, the conveniently open bay door makes me wonder if the goal was just to scare everyone back to campus?
I think they were attacked, because they ran for their lives and could have been shot by the RD.
Also "attacked" also means if they are in a life-or-death situation, and as Ricardo said they could have been shot, just like the girls could of had their heads ran over in Pilot.
Well, that gets into the difference b/w "attack" and "attack with fatal intent" and, as we still don't *actually* know the killers' motivations (or identities).....well, you really never know any attack has fatal intent, honestly, until the person has in fact died, and that still doesn't bar accidents.
(That was one of my fav bits of #2's death scene - the complete lack of fear. Well, he wasn't being violent, just creepy, ya know, until he stabbed her.)
At the very least, we know of one time that Boone's personal feelings (for Zayday) have thrown a spanner in the works. There may be other maimings and deaths with personal motivation.
Gigi: Boone! Leave that kid alone! I don't care if you hate him, let him go while you're ahead.
That may end up a common theme in deciding how "cray" the RD Posse are, if it's even possible to see continuity in their motivations for attacking from day to day. (Ah yes, a writer's favorite go-to black box - "Well, they were crazy!! Of course it makes no sense!!") Sigh.
I guess what I'm saying - poorly - is that Motivation Matters.
I really think that he/she was mainly going after Chanel. He doesn't seem to care for the rest. Except for Libby whom was attacked three times (now four if this counts)
i dont think they were because the lights going out and the lock on the door was probably just the mall closing. and the red devil didnt chase them, it just stood still and they all(except for chanel) escaped. The difference between the lawnmower scene and this one is that the red devil actually had the weapon on and was riding around, while in this one she didnt even raise it up to shoot them.
so if that constitutes as an attack then that means chanel #3 was attacked in ghost stories because boone could've murdered her right then and there and she did run for her life...
The red devil has proven to be discriminating about who he kills quite a few times. Watching Grace without attacking, passing over Libby completely when he still could have bludgeoned her with the empty nail gun, mowing over only one pledge when there was a whole field of them, letting Pete go with a MYOB warning, not gutting Chad Radwell with a chainsaw while he was lying on the ground right in front of him...we just have no way of knowing who is behind the mask at any given time or what their motivation at that moment it. I think all four Chanels were threatened by the red devil at the mall, but they weren't really attacked. Not in the way we've come to expect. RD has usually been pretty in your face and hands on with the violence...this time he was just sort of...looming. He didn't rush to keep the girls from escaping and Chanel could have easily been out too. She stayed and had to wait for him to get around to the confrontation. He just seemed oddly blase about the whole thing.
What do you think?
