Mary Mulligan, born Bethany Stevens, was a recurring character on Season One of Scream Queens. She was the president of the Kappa Kappa Tau sorority back in 1995. In Mommie Dearest, it was revealed that she is Grace's mother.
She is portrayed by Anna Grace Barlow.
Biography[]
Pilot[]
Bethany walks in the bathroom with Amy and Mandy while Sophia is holding the babies in the bathtub.
Bethany is first seen when Amy approached her, Coco, and Mandy, with blood on her hands. She teases Amy by asking her if she is on her period, but then quickly realizes something is wrong when Amy responds by saying it's not her blood.
After Bethany sees that Sophia had a baby, she starts yelling at her, stating that no one wants to see someone who's all gross and stuff. After Coco enters the bathroom and announces that Waterfalls by TLC is playing, Bethany leaves the room, saying that Waterfalls is her jam, and Sophia is not worth missing it for.
Bethany is later seen partying, and singing along to the song. She returns to the bathroom, only to see Sophia's dead body.
Hell Week[]
After all the girls start freaking out over Sophia's death, they start to come up with ways to dispose of the body. Suddenly, Ms. Bean and Cathy Munsch enter the room, and supposedly help get rid of the body.
Haunted House[]
After Grace Gardner and Pete Martínez go to the house of an older Mandy Greenwell, she tells them about the night when Sophia died in the bathtub. During the flashback, Dean Cathy Munsch, Ms. Bean, Bethany, and the other girls decide what to do with Sophia's body after she died in the bathtub. Bethany suggests calling the police, a suggestion that Cathy turns down, stating that the three girls could go to jail for negligible homicide, because they chose to go back to the party rather than help Sophia. Cathy then declares that they will all have to bury the body. She places bags over their heads so they cannot see where they are going and drives them to the burial spot. She then makes Bethany and the other girls dig, while explaining to them that they will be thankful for this one day.
Mommie Dearest[]
After Chanel hires two personal detectives to investigate who the killer is, they show her a file that reveals a lot of information about Grace's mother. Later, she reveals to Grace that Bethany hooked up with Wes on the night of the Kappa party where Sophia died. She got pregnant with Grace either that night or a few nights later. Bethany then changed her name to Mary Mulligan to cover up that she was involved in Sophia's death. Nine months later, Grace was born and that drove Mary off the deep end. She was arrested for shoplifting, petty larceny, grand larceny, drunk driving with a baby in her lap, drunk driving with a baby on top of her car, and possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute. Wes then sued for custody of Grace and won. Mary died one year later after driving drunk and crashing into a tree, causing the car to burst into flames.

Bethany is selfish, narcissistic, egotistical, and has no empathy for anybody. Bethany is incredibly uncaring when it comes to her own Kappa sisters in serious situations like when she saw Sophia in pain bleeding from childbirth, Bethany did not care at all and was really pissed at Sophia trying to shame the Kappa household and preferred to dance to Waterfalls by TLC instead of helping Sophia. She is also very uptight and will always want to get into anyone's way when she wants.
Bethany wears a long glamorous blue and navy blue shiny prom dress, she has blonde hair and green eyes.

After Grace and Chanel have a heated argument about Grace's mother not being mysterious Sophia but promiscuous selfish Bethany, Grace confronts her father Wes about her true mother's identity and lifestyle and how she really died. Wes explains to Grace that her mother Bethany changed her name to Mary Mulligan after the bathtub incident and treated Grace poorly throughout her childhood. Wes then shares that Bethany never really did die in a fire, but instead died in a horrible drunk driving accident, causing her car to wrap around a tree and burst into flames.

During the same party that Sophia gave birth and died, Bethany 'hooked up' with Wes. Sometime later, Bethany found out she was pregnant with Wes' child. They soon got married and had Grace. However, in 1996, Wes sued Bethany for custody over Grace, and in the end he won.
